Open Studio Weekend 2016

Hard to believe, but it’s that time of year again… 🙂

One weekend, each year, artists from all over Louisville open their doors for Open Studio Weekend!  And I am one of those artists!!  This event is a wonderful opportunity to see artists at work, get a glimpse into their process of making art and add to your local art collection!

Open Studio Weekend (OSW) is a partnership of the LVA and University of Louisville’s Hite Art Institute to raise funds for LVA‘s signature program Children’s Fine Art Classes and the Hite Art Institute’s Mary Spencer Nay Scholarship programs.  For only $20 you can gain access to artist studios throughout the city, while supporting arts education and scholarship programs.  It’s a small way to make a big difference and take part in an exciting and interactive exploration of the local art scene in Louisville!  Click this link to purchase your Open Studio Weekend Ticket.

InkSplash: Invitational Printmaking Exhibition

inksplash

2016 marks the year that I make a major dream come true…

It’s an honor and privilege to announce that I am exhibiting new work at InkSplash 2016, Rockaway Artists Alliances’ annual, invitation-only printmaking exhibition, themed Printmaking in a Changing World”, from October 22 – November 13th, 2016.  InkSplash 2016 will feature a wide variety of original printed works: intaglio, mono print, relief, solar-plate etching, aqua tint, photo transfers and experimental techniques celebrating the fine art of printmaking in a changing world.

Rockaway Artists Alliance is an arts organization headquartered on the Rockaway peninsula in the New York City borough of Queens. Their studio is located at Fort Tilden in Gateway National Recreation Area, NYC’s National Park.  RAA’s mission is to encourage and engage residents of its community, with arts and cultural activities. RAA also partners with New York institutions (most recently with MoMA PS1) in an effort to bring various art forms and experiences (via workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions) to the residents of this unique and geographically isolated peninsula.  Rockaway is a cool way to experience New York in a small community within in a big city that has ties to the serious art world….and…I. AM. READY!!!  (Can you tell I’m super excited???!!!)

I will be attending the opening reception of InkSplash 2016, where I will have the opportunity to meet the other exhibiting artists and engage with the local artist community of Rockaway.  Other artists included in InkSplash 2016 are Carolyn Antonucci-Almeida, Victoria BarberKathy Caraccio, Faith Edeson, Jason Novetsky, Brendan Patrick, Renee Radenberg, Carmen Frank, Willa Mae Gilbert, Elizabeth Harington, Neddi Heller, Christian Le Gars, Luanda Lozano, Esther Grillo, Deena des Rioux, John Grillo, Melissa Rubin, Onnie Strother, Susan RostowDan Welden, and Wendy Stefanelli.

“Reinventing Tradition” at StudioWorks by Zoom Group

It is with great pleasure to announce my participation in the upcoming “Reinventing Tradition exhibition at StudioWorks by Zoom Group, curated by the amazing and talented Barrett Smyth!

Founded in 1986, Zoom Group is a thriving organization that empowers, educates and employs over 250 people with all levels of developmental disabilities. StudioWorks, the art studio of Zoom Group,  is a creative and inclusive atmosphere in which artists with and without disabilities thrive.  Professionally-trained artists are on staff to interact with member artists daily as they deepen their talents, change perceptions, raise awareness, and beautify the community through art.

Reinventing Tradition” aims to surpass the boundaries of academic fine art and its scholarly values by skewing the lens of how one analyzes a work of art. The artists obscure the viewer’s perception through their execution in technique, process, and rendering. The show is to glorify the radical progressions that both the artists and their work have created through their alternative processes, while remaining loyal to traditional media”.  Curator Barrett Smyth

The opening reception of “Reinventing Tradition is Friday, October 21st from 6-9 pm.  If you can’t make it that night, the exhibition will be up through December 30th.  StudioWorks is located at 2008 Eastern Parkway in Louisville, Kentucky.  The gallery and studio are open to the public Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and Saturday from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

Please share the word of this event, which will also share awareness of the awesome Zoom Group organization!

Hope to see you there!
